#1💡Chess Advice ♟️
This is how I play chess (no, I am not a chess master).
I was thinking about how this relates to investing and I thought of two things:
My preference is to go NARROW and DEEP on investments I have high educated conviction in (aka — forget diversification). This forces me to think of the threats to my conviction.
Reduce self-threat by (a) do not over-leverage; (b) have a long-term horizon (10+ years).
#2💡Nike Manifesto
Written in 1980 but still applies today.
If I am a startup, I’d focus on #’s 2, 3, 5, 9.
If I am a big incumbent, I’d focus on #’s 1, 8. We are seeing a battle of the giants now in Microsoft v. Google.
#3💡’Hey, ChatGPT…Make Google Dance’
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Google competing with Bing’s new AI.
Regardless of the outputs (and whether Clippy makes a comeback), you have to give credit to Satya for taking on the challenge and reinventing Microsoft.
Tobi Lutke (Shopify) summed it well:
“Satya Nadella is the most founder non founder ever.”
