Jeff Bezos 1994 Stat
In 1994, Jeff Bezos read a stat that made him leave his high-paying job at a famous hedge fund to start Amazon.
The Internet was growing 2300% per year.
3 big stats today.
#1: College tuition outgrows how much money people make by 10x.
What this means: YouTube University self-learning will skyrocket. It’s free. It’s faster. The Internet becomes your network and proof of work.
The current drawbacks are (1) accepted credibility (Harvard is still a powerful signal), but proof of work online is a better signal to discerning leaders; (2) lack of in-person socializing, solve this by hosting local meetups on your domain topic.
#2: In 1942, 8 hours of sleep was the norm. Today, people average 6.8 hours.
What this means: The old priority was Work > Family > Health. The new model is Health > Family > Work.
Without health, you have nothing.
Without health + family, you have unhappiness.
People are re-defining what matters to them.
#3 As of 2020, Americans saved 60,000,000+ commute hours per day with remote work.
What this means: To build on stat #2, the battle for RTO vs WFH will continue.
The next Google, Amazon, or Facebook that is built WFM first will be the catalyst to change norms. It will take at least 7 years IMO.
