Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude, reflection, and gatherings.
This had me thinking about how valuable (and short-lived) our time is and the importance of deciding with whom we spend it with.
The next 6 graphs may shock you…
1/ Family
Wow. Time spent with our parents, siblings, and family peaks in childhood and declines sharply after age 20.
💪Call to Action:
You may only see your loved ones a few more times. Be in the moment and prioritize every second.
Call/Zoom your family each week. Even a 5 minute check-in/what’s up works.
2/ Friends
Time spent with friends peaks at age 18 and declines sharply.
💪Call to Action:
Focus on depth and invest in healthy/meaningful friendships.
Text your 2-4 closest friends saying how much you appreciate them.
3/ Partner
Who you choose as a partner is the single most important decision you will ever make (don’t settle for less).
💪Call to Action:
Appreciation and gratitude compounds. Talk to your partner everyday and tell them what you appreciate about them.
Invest your resources on making co-memories (not buying physical goods). Things people reflect on fondly: that magical trip, that wild experience, the excitement of trying something new.
4/ Children
Wow. Time spent with your children peaks in your 30s and sharply declines.
💪Call to Action:
Be a child with your child. Have fun. Be present. Ask lots of questions. Roar like an animal. Roll around in grass. The “Childhood Years” go in the blink of an eye. We have a 9-month old daughter and she’s already different from 2-month old and 6-month old Rowan.
5/ Coworkers
No surprise. Time spent with coworkers is steady from age 20-60.
💪Call to Action:
Prioritize learning, earning, and working with people you get energy from (stay away from energy vampires). You spend a lot of time with coworkers, do not take this decision lightly.
6/ Alone
You spend the most time with yourself.
💪Call to Action:
Take care of yourself and your wellbeing (if you don’t, then all the other graphs get cut-short).
Identify your “Happy Place” (e.g. running, meditation, on the beach, walking your dog, playing video games, etc).
Time is short. Time is valuable. Don’t waste it. It’s up to you.
